They came together for the reconstruction of humanitarian values…
Üsküdar University hosted an important meeting under the coordination of the Haydi Tut Elimi Rehabilitation Education and Assistance Association. In order to reconstruct human values that have been forgotten recently, many associations have come together to voice the importance of human values with a louder voice. Speaking at the meeting where it was aimed to establish a federation, Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Nevzat Tarhan pointed out that the ultimate goal is to benefit people. Pointing out that this system can nurture and grow itself if it can create an ecosystem for the reconstruction of human values, Tarhan reminded that it is important to see the need and produce solutions for it.
Those who attended the meeting are as follows: President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar University Advisor to the Rector Prof. İsmail Barış Members of the Board of Directors of Haydi Tut Elimi Association, Neşe Gökalp, President of Istanbul Foster Family Association, Nadire Uçan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kız Çocuklarını Koruma Derneği (Association for the Protection of Girls), Havva İnç Gürak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DİLHAN Association- Darülaceze Heart and Inspiration Association, İsmail İşler, Founding President of Suspended 3D Association, Mehmet Akif Gencer, Vice President of the International Young Volunteers Association, and Didem Özal Ekinci, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Red Children Association.
Prof. Nevzat Tarhan: "If our intentions are right, success will come with it"
Pointing out that the main goal at the meeting is to benefit people, Prof. Nevzat Tarhan said that one of the most important skills of the 21st century is to act as a team. Tarhan stated that "When doing a project, it is very important that everything proceeds in a transparent, open and honest manner. If our intentions are right, success will come with it. The most critical point here is that our goal is not based only on personal interests. Our main goal should be to touch people and provide benefits. If we act from this point of view, we can achieve truly meaningful work. Otherwise, we are self-sabotaging. Teamwork plays a big role as well as individual efforts on the road to success. One of the most important skills of the 21st century is to act as a team. We see similar examples in nature. When starlings fly in large groups, birds of prey cannot get close to them. In the same way, fish protect themselves by moving in schools in the seas. This is what is called 'herd intelligence' in nature. In humans, the equivalent of this is 'group intelligence'. In order for success to be sustainable, we need to establish a social system, not just an individual one. If we can create an ecosystem for the reconstruction of human values, this system will feed and grow itself. The important thing here is not to pursue benefits, but to see the real need and produce solutions for it. Because when we meet a need, new opportunities will naturally arise automatically."
Prof. İsmail Barış gave information on the topic
Üsküdar University Advisor to the Rector Prof. İsmail Barış gave information. Barış stated that "We will hold a consultation meeting. Our lawyer will explain how the decision will be made in a very short general assembly. Then decisions will be made from general issues. After that, we will have another meeting. It is a meeting, after all. It is a consultation conversation right now.”
Nebiye Yaşar: "We have experienced the power and influence of federations closely"
Nebiye Yaşar, Director of the Young Minds Academy Application and Research Center (GBA), stated that they will continue to make stronger contributions to society together with the federations. Yaşar stated that "In the process we started with the Amasya Federation of Associations, we successfully implemented the project we received from the Ministry of Interior. In this process, we have experienced the power and influence of federations closely. Our Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, emphasizes the social impact of federations at every opportunity. At the meeting held in August, they expressed their belief in the power of the federations and stated that they prioritized the projects. Civil society means creating value. Together with the federations, we will continue to make stronger contributions to society."
Ayşe Banu Güngenci: "It is a great opportunity for us to take part in Üsküdar University"
Ayşe Banu Güngenci, Secretary General of the Haydi Tut Elimi Rehabilitation Education and Assistance Association, gave information about the association. Güngenci stated that "We came together here under the name of a consultation meeting of associations with the same purpose. Haydi Tut Elimi Association is an association established in 2010 with a few volunteers. At first, our purpose was to establish an association for children who have been neglected and abused. We were especially supporting our children staying in institutions in this regard. We had a protocol with the Ministry of Family and Social Services. Together with them, we were also supporting children in both social and social rehabilitation and health. Then, in 2010-2015, our charter changed. This time, we tried to support all disadvantaged children between the ages of 0-18 and we grew rapidly. We are still working with the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Social Services, Family and Social Services. Since we are located at Üsküdar University, we can move a little more easily and this is a great opportunity for us. Because we get support from expert teachers. Both student clubs and expert professors from almost every faculty support us. We can easily take part in this area in the field."
Havva İnç Gürak: "Setting your heart on this place is not only a profession, it is a matter of humanity"
At the meeting, the story of Havva İnç Gürak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DİLHAN Association-Darülaceze Volunteer and Inspired Association, attracted a lot of attention. Gürak mentioned that small changes make a big difference and life there becomes healthier and stated that "I am Havva İnç Gürek. After graduating from Florence Nightingale, I started working at the Hospice in 1973 with the suggestion of my teacher. At that time, I was trying to apply the modern techniques in the American Hospital here, but do I have the opportunity? I was caring for patients by cutting oil cans from the cafeteria and making stoves. Among those who came here, there were those who grew up in the palace and were orphaned when they got old, and those who were left unattended on the streets. One day, when I was treating a seriously injured patient, he opened his eyes and asked, 'Have I died and come to heaven?' At that moment, I realized that putting one's heart into this place was not only a matter of profession, but also a matter of humanity. Over time, I made efforts to improve the education of children and the conditions of the elderly here. We met with Çiğdem Kağıtçıbaşı from Boğaziçi University and organized trainings. Initially, the staff resisted, but over time, they saw the impact of science on the field. In the past, when we said 'Forbidden' to visitors who brought chocolates to children, it was thought that the staff ate the chocolates. After the trainings, the staff took a conscious approach by saying, "We can give it at this time, if you want to wait, you are welcome." Small changes have made a big difference and life here has become healthier."
"Every life you touch with love is transformed"
Emphasizing that every life touched with love can change, Gürak said; "After these experiences, in 2003, the Association of Those Who Are Inspired by Darülaceze (DİLHAN) was established. We opened love houses so that children would not be left unattended, and we created the Step by Step Hold on to Life House for young people over the age of 18. Once upon a time, we healed a child who could not hold his anus on the street with ballet lessons. Every life touched by love can change. I never discriminate between children coming out of hospice; Disabled or not, they are all my children. Maybe one day I'll put all of this into a book, but remember this: Every life you touch with love is transformed. DİLHAN exists to put a smile on a child's face."
Members of the association talked about the aims of the establishment and their work.
Later, the Presidents and members of the Associations who attended the meeting talked about the establishment purposes of the associations and the work done.
