Üsküdar University Education Institutions and Guidance Services Manager and Expert Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan shared valuable advice on the YKS application process and exam preparation.
Application process and important considerations
Application period for the 2025 YKS will start on February 6 and end on March 3. Expert Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan stated that no significant system changes have been announced for the 2025 YKS so far. However, Akoğlan emphasized that ÖSYM updates the exam schedule and application dates every year. Therefore, candidates should carefully follow official announcements and check ÖSYM's official website and AIS (Candidate Transactions System) to avoid missing the application deadlines.
What are the most common mistakes in the YKS application process?
Pointing out the crucial aspects candidates should be mindful of, Akoğlan listed the most frequently made mistakes as follows:
Entering incorrect or incomplete information: Candidates must ensure that their ID numbers, contact details, and school information are entered accurately and completely.
Leaving the application to the last days: To avoid potential system overloads and disruptions, it is important to apply early.
Not updating the photo: If the photo registered in ÖSYM’s system needs to be updated, candidates must upload a new photo through an authorized center.
Incorrectly selecting the exam sessions: The TYT session is mandatory, but those who wish to take the AYT and YDT must select these options separately.
Failing to pay the application fee on time: If the payment is not completed after the application, the application will be considered invalid.
Expert Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan also stressed that the application process is entirely the student's responsibility and warned that "Thinking that your teachers will handle the application for you may lead to missing the deadline."
What are the most effective study methods for YKS?
To succeed in YKS, Akoğlan recommended the following study strategies:
Time management: Creating a weekly study schedule and regularly reviewing subjects is essential.
Attending lessons prepared: Studying the material in advance enhances learning efficiency.
Active learning techniques: Instead of just listening to lectures, solving questions and taking notes improve retention.
Practice exams: Taking mock exams under real exam conditions helps develop time management skills.
Utilizing multiple resources: Relying on a single source is not enough; using different books and online platforms is more effective.
What methods should be applied for success?
Highlighting that success in YKS depends not only on academic knowledge but also on time management, stress control, and proper planning, Akoğlan shared additional important points as follows:
Keeping motivation high: Setting long-term goals and using small rewards can help maintain motivation.
Finding the best study style: Some people learn better in a quiet environment, while others benefit from group study sessions. Finding the most suitable method is key.
Regular revision: Periodic review of subjects ensures better retention of knowledge.
Taking care of mental and physical health: Maintaining a regular sleep schedule, a balanced diet, and engaging in physical activities improves concentration and productivity.
Practice exams enhance exam readiness and reduce anxiety
Akoğlan emphasized the importance of taking more practice exams during holidays and intense study periods, as this will improve exam-taking skills and help reduce exam anxiety. He concluded by stating that "Candidates feeling good both physically and mentally will positively impact their success."
