"It is necessary to know the struggle so that what is won in the war is not lost at the table"
Stating that the Treaty of Lausanne should be known to understand the Republic, Prof. Bingür Sönmez from Memorial Health Group said that "On the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne, which is the title deed of the Republic of Türkiye, I commemorate the great Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms, our saintly martyrs who gave material and moral support to the national struggle, gave their lives and shed their blood, with mercy and gratitude. May their souls rest in peace. To understand the Republic, it is necessary to know Lausanne. It is necessary to know the period before and after the First World War, when the Karlowitz Treaty has been constantly losing territory since 1694, and great concessions were made to the western states and Russia with the military, political and economic agreements made. It is necessary to know what the Mudros Armistice could not get us to accept, the Mudanya Armistice, which was signed after the great ranks of the Treaty of Sevres, the second Sèvres that was tried to be accepted by us at the First Lausanne Conference, how İsmet Pasha stood up to the representatives of the Entente States and returned to Ankara and interrupted the Lausanne negotiations, and the struggle of the Turkish side to prevent the loss of what was won in the war at the table."
Talking about the events that took place in Ankara during Lausanne in his speech, Prof. Bingür Sönmez made evaluations on the subject.
