Prof. David Arnold Baron, DO, MSEd, is an internationally recognized physician and scholar whose pioneering work in sports psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, education, and clinical administration has made a lasting impact on the field. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held senior leadership and departmental chair positions at some of the world's most prestigious medical and research institutions, successfully integrating the roles of clinician, researcher, and educator. Educational Background David Arnold Baron studied Biology at Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia) from 1971 to 1972 and completed his pre-medical education at the Honors College of Temple University (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). In 1978, he graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine with the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). Between 1982 and 1987, he completed a Master of Science in Education (MSEd) at the University of Southern California (USC). To further advance his medical expertise, he pursued specialized studies in Medical Bioethics at Georgetown University School of Bioethics (1988–1989) and later completed executive training in Management at the Harvard School of Public Health (2006–2007). Career and Academic Leadership Prof. Baron began his professional career with significant responsibilities at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), serving as Associate Clinical Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in Bethesda from 1987 to 1992. From 1998 to 2010, he served as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the Temple University School of Medicine, where he provided institutional leadership and academic direction. Between 2010 and 2018, he was Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC). During this period, he served as Vice Chair of Psychiatry (2010–2015) and Interim Chair of the Department of Psychiatry (2015–2016). He also held the position of Adjunct Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery from 2016 to 2018 and was honored with the title of Professor Emeritus in 2018. From 2018 to 2019, he served as Vice President for Clinical Affairs and External Relations at Western University of Health Sciences. Since 2019, he has held the positions of Senior Vice President and Provost. He has published hundreds of peer-reviewed articles in internationally respected medical journals and has served as a reviewer or editorial board member for leading academic publications, including Academic Psychiatry, American Journal of Psychiatry, and The Lancet Psychiatry.
