Üsküdar University: From Past to Present
NP Health Group, which was established to contribute to society in the field of Mental Health and to produce solutions to problems, has been providing health services with its academic and expert physician staff for 20 years.
Üsküdar University, which has been added to the NP Health Group chain after NPISTANBUL Brain Hospital, NP Feneryolu Medical Center and NP Etiler Medical Center, leads young people to become individuals who have both a good profession and human values with its educational staff strengthened by the NP tradition and the university-hospital cooperation model that offers future career opportunities.
History
NP Healthcare Group first started offering services in 1998 by adding brain mapping features to standard EEG and using computerized clinical tests and training modules.
On May 25, 1999, the Turkish branch of Memory Centers of America was opened on Bagdat Street in Istanbul with the participation of then President Süleyman Demirel.
Memory Center was the first to offer "Brain Check Up" and "Magnetic Stimulation Therapy" in Türkiye.
On October 03, 2000, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit was opened with the participation of Wenon Wells, President of Memory Centers of America.
NP Health Group pioneered the "Treatment by Measuring Brain Functions" and "Thought-Oriented Medicine" approach in Türkiye and realized another first.
In February 2003, Adult Neurology and Psychiatry and Child Adolescent Psychiatry were opened in Feneryolu.
On November 07, 2006, NPISTANBUL Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Türkiye's first private hospital in the field of neuropsychiatry, was opened with the participation of Bülent Arınç, the 22nd President of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, in order to meet the need for an inpatient institution. In the same year, Functional and Volumetric MR Imaging Techniques were introduced.
In June 2009, Türkiye's first Clinical Pharmacogenetics Laboratory in Neuropsychiatry was established.
On August 10, 2009, NPISTANBUL Etiler Medical Center was established and services were started in the fields of Child and Adolescent Psychology, Adult Sleep Disorders Unit, Neurology and Internal Medicine.
On March 03, 2011, Üsküdar University was founded with the title of "Türkiye's first thematic university". NP Feneryolu Medical Center and NP Etiler Medical Center became "NPSUAM Neuropsychiatry Health, Practice and Research Center" under the roof of Üsküdar University as of October 2011.
In 2011, with the establishment of the University, the Institute of Social Sciences and the Institute of Health Sciences were established.
In the 2012-2013 academic year, Üsküdar University admitted its first students.
In 2013, the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences was established.
In April 2014, Üsküdar University launched the Science and Idea Festival, which also includes entertainment, in order for high school students to announce their ideas and projects in an academic environment. The festival continues every year without interruption.
In June 2014, Üsküdar University gave its first graduates. 270 students from the Vocational School of Health Services, who successfully completed 2 years of education, graduated with a magnificent ceremony.
In July 2014, Üsküdar University Institute of Sufi Studies was established, another first in Türkiye.
NPISTANBUL Neuropsychiatric Hospital, the practice center of Üsküdar University, became the first JCI accredited private psychiatric hospital to receive an AMATEM license from the Ministry of Health in December 2014.
In 2015, Uskudar University became the Türkiye Representative of the Brain Initiative Program launched by US President Obama.
In 2015, professional Radio-TV studios were established for Faculty of Communication students. UU TV and UU Radio broadcasts continue uninterruptedly.
In 2015, Üsküdar University planted 3 thousand saplings in the area allocated by the Environmental Organizations Solidarity Association on the Şile road on May 6, Hıdırellez, and Üsküdar University Memorial Forest was created.
In 2015, Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan became a board member of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT), which operates in the field of brain research in the USA.
In 2015, Üsküdar University Publishing House was established. The first book of the publishing house was "Conferences and Lectures on Brain-Behavior Relations" by Prof. Dr. Oğuz Tanrıdağ.
In November 2016, Üsküdar University and NPISTANBUL Brain Hospital center was opened in Cologne, Germany to provide education and health consultancy services in Europe.
In December 2016, the Pediatric Occupational Therapy Unit was added to Üsküdar University NP Etiler Medical Center.
In 2016, Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy was re-elected to the 13-person International Drug Control Board of the United Nations.
On April 09, 2016, the Institute of Addiction and Forensic Sciences was established.
In 2016, Üsküdar University went beyond the classical University awards and started to present the High Human Values Awards in order to reward exemplary people who have contributed to society. With the award ceremony organized every year, High Human Values Awards are presented to people who carry 24 gold values.
In January 2017, the Speech and Language Disorders, Otolaryngology and Audiology Clinics in Altunizade were moved to the NP Feneryolu Medical Center Kalamış building. The current building continues to serve as Üsküdar University South Campus. NP Feneryolu Medical Center added Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy units to its service areas in its new building.
Üsküdar University opened the Forensic Sciences Undergraduate Department in 2017, marking another first in Türkiye.
Üsküdar University launched its Incubation Center BrainPark in the first half of 2017 to support entrepreneurship and commercialization.
NPISTANBUL Neuropsychiatry Hospital, the application center of Üsküdar University, expanded its health service area with general hospital facilities focused on the brain area by incorporating new specialties in its new building under the name of NPISTANBUL Brain Hospital in February 2017.
Üsküdar University, which currently has four faculties as Faculty of Communication, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, received the approval of the Faculty of Medicine in March 2018. The "Decision on the Establishment and Closure of Faculties Affiliated to Some Higher Education Institutions" was published in the Official Gazette on the date of the March 14, 2018 Medical Day celebrations.
In August 2018, Üsküdar University was declared as a "Center of Excellence" by UNESCO for its work in the field of Neurobiology, Cognitive Medicine and Brain Research.
On June 30, 2020, with the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette, it was decided to establish a Faculty of Dentistry within Üsküdar University. The faculty started education and training by admitting students in the 2021-2022 academic year.
Üsküdar Dental Hospital, which incorporates the strong staff of Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry, which started its operations under the roof of NP Health Group, started its operations in April 2023.
