She was a historian, poet, and philosopher of the transitional period from the Middle Ages to Humanism. Recognized as the first professional female writer to earn a living through her writing, Pizan was rediscovered in the 20th century. She had a universal understanding of history and, in her works, criticized humanity for its failure to establish a just and united society. Pisan, who attributed the greatest share of this failure to the clergy and the popes, criticized the Bible’s prohibition of women from teaching and discussed how women were pushed out of public life. Her most famous work is the book *The City of Ladies*. In this city, there are virtuous women such as saintesses and female warriors. The primary virtues of the city’s women are reason, honesty, and justice. Pizan argues that God created women and men different only in outward appearance, but breathed the same spirit into both, and therefore they are equal. Pizan, who argued that women have the ability to bring goodness to the entire world through education and respect, sought to spread the idea that women and men together can bring the love and peace the world needs.
