Efe Sefa Değirmenci, a third-year student in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (English) at Üsküdar University’s Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and President of the IEEE Club, ranked among the top five finalists in Türkiye with his project in the “Amgen 6th IamGenius Biotechnology Ideas Competition,” one of Türkiye’s leading competitions in the field of biotechnology. Participating in the competition with his project developed under the theme “Smart Healthcare Solutions with Artificial Intelligence in Biotechnology,” Değirmenci was deemed worthy of advancing to the finals by the jury thanks to his innovative approach, data-driven analysis model, and solution-oriented perspective.


Organized by Amgen, one of the world’s largest independent biotechnology companies, the competition aims to encourage young researchers and university students to develop innovative ideas in the field of biotechnology.
IamGenius, which aims to highlight young people’s creative ideas in science, biotechnology, and health technologies, received applications from more than 100 students from different universities across Türkiye this year. Following the preliminary selection process, the five ideas that advanced to the finals had the opportunity to present their innovative solutions for health and life sciences to a jury of experts in the field.
Ranked Among the Top Five Finalists
Efe Sefa Değirmenci participated in the competition with his project developed under the theme “Smart Healthcare Solutions with Artificial Intelligence in Biotechnology.” Focusing on the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the field of healthcare, the project was deemed worthy of advancing to the finals by the jury thanks to its innovative approach, data-driven analysis model, and solution-oriented structure.
Değirmenci, who ranked among the top five finalists in the competition where numerous applications from across Türkiye were evaluated, gained the opportunity to represent Üsküdar University at the national level with this achievement.
