2025–2026 Compulsory English Course Exemption Exam

Notice to Undergraduate and Associate Degree Students Regarding Optional Participation in the 2025–2026 Mandatory English Course Exemption Exam

Students may optionally take the English Exemption Exam for the following compulsory courses: Basic English I–II (ING103–ING104 / INGU103–INGU104) and English I–II (ENG103–ENG104). Please refer to the attached table for detailed information regarding eligible departments, course codes, and exam particulars.

2. Students with a sufficient level of English proficiency are strongly encouraged to take the exam. Those who achieve a passing score will be exempted from the relevant English courses and therefore will not be required to attend the compulsory English classes during either semester. Students who choose not to take the exam or who do not achieve a passing score will be required to enroll in and complete the compulsory English courses as outlined in their academic program.

3. The Exemption Exam for Basic English I–II and English I–II will be conducted online via ALMS (lms.uskudar.edu.tr). For Faculty and Vocational School students, the exam will take place on 14 October 2025, and for all other eligible students, on 14 October 2025. Both sessions will be held between 09:00 and 17:00. No prior registration is required; students can log in using their LMS credentials.

4. The exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions aligned with the content and level of the respective English courses. Each session will last 50 minutes, and students are expected to complete the exam within the allocated time.

5. Students who achieve a letter grade of CC or higher will have their results officially recorded in the Student Information System (OBS) by the Office of Student Affairs for both semesters. For example, if a student receives a grade of BA, this grade will be applied to the corresponding compulsory English course for each semester. Please refer to the table below for the grade scale and corresponding letter grades.

6. The exemption exam may be taken only once. Students who choose not to take the exam, or who are absent during the scheduled session, will not be given a second opportunity to take the exemption exam.

7. Students who have previously taken and failed the relevant English courses, or who wish to improve their earlier grades, are not eligible to take the exemption exam. Such students are required to retake the English course(s) they previously failed or completed with a low letter grade, in accordance with academic regulations.

8. Internal and external transfer students admitted in the previous year's spring semester, as well as students who completed the English Preparatory Program and transferred to their faculty mid-academic year, are eligible to take the exemption exam only for Fall Semester courses. These students may take the exam only if they have successfully completed English II (ENG104 / ING104 / INGU104). If they pass the exemption exam, they will be exempt from English I (ENG103 / ING103 / INGU103).
