In 1908, Yalman entered Istanbul Law Faculty, and in the same year he joined the editorial board of Yeni Gazete, shaping his career in journalism. In 1911, Yalman went to the United States and studied sociology and history at Columbia University, where he earned his PhD with a dissertation. This work, the first doctoral thesis on the Turkish press, was published under the title "The Development Of Modern Turkey As Measured By Its Press". He authored many important works on journalism and conducted in-depth studies on the history of the Turkish press.
