Sabri Gürses graduated from Istanbul University, Department of Russian Language and Literature, and completed his master’s degree in the same institution’s Department of Translation Studies with a thesis on poetry translation, focusing on the translations of Nabokov and Pushkin. He earned his PhD at Erciyes University, Department of Russian Language and Literature, with a monograph on the Russian semiotician Yuri Lotman. He has published works on translation studies and, since 2005, has been researching plagiarism in translation, publishing numerous articles in this field. He has also worked as a postdoctoral researcher in TÜBİTAK projects on translation plagiarism and translation technologies. His research spans a wide range of areas, including the history of translation, translation technology, the sociology of translation, Russian studies, the history of Russian literature, and comparative literary studies. He has translated nearly one hundred works from Russian and American literature. He has received various awards for his literary works and translations. His translation of Glossolalia by Andrei Bely received the Pushkin Prize in 2009, and his translation of Goncharov’s Oblomov won the Dünya Kitap Award in 2010. In the same year, he was awarded the Young Breath Award of the Translation Association. In 2018, his translation of Eugene Onegin was among the three finalists for the Read Russia (Читай Россию) Prize, and in 2020, he won this prize with Tolstoy: Complete Works.
