Asst. Prof. Nejla Polat was born in Malatya. She graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Letters in 1987. She received her master's and doctorate degrees from İstanbul University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Journalism and Public Relations. In 1998, she started to work as a faculty member at Trakya University. Between 2002 and 2005, she worked at Kocaeli University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Journalism.
Between 2006 and 2008, she served as the Head of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising at the Faculty of Communication at the European University of Lefke in Cyprus. Between 2008 and 2010, she served as the Head of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising at İstanbul Arel University, Faculty of Communication. Between 2010 and 2013, she was the Head of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising at Yeni Yüzyıl University, Faculty of Communication. In 2013, she worked as an assistant professor at İstanbul Gelisim University, Department of Radio, Television and Cinema. She worked as a faculty member in the Department of Public Relations and Advertising at the same university until 2015. Between 2015 and 2016, she served as the Head of the Department of New Media and Journalism at Üsküdar University, Faculty of Communication.
