Assoc. Prof. Burcu Polat, who holds a European Board of Neurology certification, specializes in headache medicine and preventive neurology. She completed her medical education at Fırat University Faculty of Medicine in 2000 and received her specialization in Neurology from Bakırköy Mental and Neurological Diseases Hospital in 2009.
Having pursued her academic and clinical career for many years at İstanbul Medipol Mega University Hospital, Assoc. Prof. Polat served as Head of the Department of Neurology at Düzce University Faculty of Medicine from 2023 to 2026, following approximately 10 years of experience at İstanbul Medipol Mega University Hospital.
Her primary areas of interest include migraine and other head and facial pain disorders, myofascial pain syndromes, vertigo, neuromodulation therapies, stroke, and dementia syndromes. Combining the scientific approach of modern neurology with complementary treatment methods in her clinical practice, Assoc. Prof. Polat provides her patients with personalized and sustainable treatment solutions through specialized approaches such as dry needling, electroacupuncture, nerve blocks, and botulinum toxin applications.
Her scientific research focuses particularly on clinical and neuroepidemiological studies of migraine and other headache disorders; approaches to the prevention and treatment of dementia and related neurodegenerative diseases; neurorehabilitation; neuromodulation therapies; chronic pain management; olfactory and taste disorders; and medical education. She continues her research on preventive and therapeutic approaches to neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. A member of the Turkish Neurological Society, the International Headache Society, the Global Migraine and Pain Society, and the National Headache and Pain Studies Association, Assoc. Prof. Burcu Polat closely follows current scientific developments and provides patient care based on a holistic and evidence-based approach to neurology. Burcu POLAT serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine.
