ABRSM (Maternal and Infant Mental Health Research and Application Center)

Mother-Baby Mental Health Practice and Research Center (A-B RSM) was established within Üsküdar University on October 21, 2019 with the regulation of the Official Gazette No: 30925.

Areas that Üsküdar University A-B RSM plans to contribute to:

  1. Informing and raising awareness of policy makers, health professionals, families, mothers and other people involved with infants about the importance of pregnancy, infancy and early childhood (0-3 years)
  2. To reveal the importance of the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of mothers and babies by conducting research in cooperation with disciplines working in the field of mother-baby health
  3. Developing measures to protect the mental health of infants and their mothers together with relevant institutions, developing action plans for intervention when necessary, and implementing these plans
  4. Ensuring that screening services, especially for depression, are integrated into general health services at the earliest possible stage for the early diagnosis and treatment of perinatal mental illnesses
  5. Ensuring that maternal-infant mental health services are integrated into the mother-infant health programs currently being carried out in our country
  6. Integrating maternal-infant mental health services with child health services
  7. Ensuring that the mental health of the mother and the physical development of the infant, especially the infant's nutrition, are inextricably linked so that they are addressed through an integrated care program for both mother and infant
  8. Preventing maternal suicide, one of the leading causes of pregnancy-related deaths
  9. Reducing infant mortality, growth and development retardation by ensuring that maternal depression in the prenatal and postnatal periods is recognized and treated in a timely manner
  10. Ensuring the implementation of effective and appropriate approaches to help women with mental health problems within the scope of primary health care
  11. Attention to the psychosocial and emotional needs of infants for optimal physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral and social development of children

Areas of Activity of the Center

  1. To carry out activities to support social policies that will strengthen maternal and infant mental health in parallel with the common goals and activities of relevant public institutions and organizations in harmony with national and social policies, to implement and/or develop strategic action plans in parallel with these policies.
  2. To provide training and counseling services to protect, prevent, educate, develop, guide and rehabilitate maternal and infant mental health.
  3. To provide training programs for health professionals and educators working in the field of maternal and infant health.
  4. To organize national activities such as the Maternal and Infant Mental Health Awareness Campaign.
  5. To organize training and certification programs and support groups on pregnancy planning and follow-up for people with mental illness, and to provide online or telephone counseling services on certain days and hours.
  6. To carry out activities such as research, implementation and publication studies in cooperation with national and international institutions and organizations
  7. To share the studies carried out within the Center through academic publications, trainings, conferences, seminars and workshops.
  8. To participate in national and international meetings such as professional seminars, conferences, symposiums and to organize similar programs.
  9. To carry out projects, academic research, clinical practice studies to protect the physical, psychological and social health of pregnant women with mental illness in the society; to train the necessary staff to carry out similar studies.
  10. To conduct research and studies on the aspects of maternal and infant mental health specific to Turkish culture.
  11. To examine the effects of the global process and media on maternal and infant mental health.
  12. To develop assessment tools such as scales, questionnaires, etc. to be used in studies to improve maternal and infant mental health
  13. Conducting broadcasting activities to raise public awareness, live programs, as well as distance education for interested individuals when necessary. For this purpose, preparing informative documents within the scope of the website, providing a question and answer platform
  14. To carry out other activities determined by the Rector and/or the Board of Trustees or decided by the Üsküdar University Board of Directors within the scope of the Center.

Academic Trainings:

Trainings will be provided for academic staff, undergraduate and graduate students, those working in the field of research, those who want to develop surveys and conduct data analysis, health professionals involved in the treatment process of mental illnesses, and those who have mental problems in the perinatal period. In this way, academic and strategic guidance on the process will be provided to individuals and institutions that conduct research in the field and need guidance.
