Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering

Welcome to the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Üsküdar University.

As a newly founded department, we aim to establish a long tradition of excellence in research and teaching. Our students are provided with a solid background on fundamental concepts of basic sciences, chemistry, biology, mathematics, as well as on life & basic engineering sciences. Through formation of analytical thinking, graduated chemical and biological engineers will be equipped with full knowledge on the approaches to solve engineering problems in biotechnology related areas, as well as the problems in biological chemistry, organic chemistry, process engineering. As a result, we target to be one of the leading source of chemical and biological engineers both in Turkey and worldwide.  

Undergraduate and graduate students at Üsküdar University are exposed to multi-disciplinary environment, which allows them to select wide variety of research topics with high impact, world-class, cutting-edge characteristics. Moreover, our students could gain international educational experiences through our bilateral agreements (ERASMUS).

The Program of Chemical and Biological Engineering

Today, the need for chemical and biological sciences and associated engineering applications is increasingly evident in areas such as health, agriculture and food. Chemical and biological engineers will undertake important responsibilities in such areas. The program of Chemical and Biological Engineering Department composed of theoretical and practical courses which are fundamental sciences integrated with engineering discipline. Our students will have the opportunity to get specialized in the fields of medical and agricultural biotechnology, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, cell culture, tissue culture, biosensors, biomimetics, neuroscience, environment and energy management, renewable energy, waste management, biomaterials, nanotechnology, catalysts and catalytic reactions, polymer science, process engineering, computational biology, bioinformatics and biostatistics.

The education period is four years and the program can be completed in maximum seven years. The language of instruction is 100% in English and foreign language preparation is compulsory. Foreign language education is not included in the specified education period.

Work Opportunities for Graduates

Because our students will be both educated and trained both in chemical and biological engineering, the future opportunities are much wider and this flexibility allows them to choose their future focus much more efficiently. Through this approach, a graduate may focus largely on chemical design and could find a job in a drug company or related academic institutes whereas another graduate could focus on biological subjects more and find a job in a hospital laboratory or related academia.  Thus, our graduates will have the opportunity to work in a number of sectors such as health, medicine, food, agriculture, materials, energy, electronics. They can work both in government agencies and in the private sector. In addition to these, graduates can continue their academic career with various research supports both in Turkey and abroad.
