Mazhar Osman UZMAN 1884 – 31 August 1951
He was a psychiatrist. He was a Turkish physician who founded the first modern mental health in Turkey. In 1904, he graduated from the Military School of Medicine as lieutenant and became a doctor. He started to work as an assistant teacher at Gülhane Military Hospital Mental Service. In 1908, he went to Berlin and Munich to receive specialist training in neurology and psychology. He then returned to Gülhane. In 1914, he became the chief physician and director of the “Mental Observatory of Mental Diseases” in Haseki. In addition to the Turkish Society of Neuro-psychiatry; He is the founder of health associations such as the “Society for the Fight against Drinks” and has written various professional works such as Nervous Diseases and Pleasurable Poisons. He was selected as honorary member of international health institutions such as Hamburg Mental Illness Association, French Neurological Society and New York Neurology Academy. He had a major contribution to founding the first serology, neuro-pathology, experimental psychology laboratories in Turkey.
