Orientation Training Provided to Intern Doctors for Preparation in the Healthcare System

Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine organized an Intern Doctor Orientation Program. The program focused on the structure of the healthcare system and the interrelation of health professions. Additionally, the importance of active participation during the clinical period and the potential challenges in the hospital environment were addressed. Students were provided with awareness regarding the functioning of the healthcare system and were offered advice to help them prepare for the new term.

The program was held at the İbni Sina Auditorium in the NP Health Campus of Üsküdar University and was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Hikmet Koçak, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Haydar Sur, Faculty Member Prof. Aptullah Haholu, Head of the Department of Family Medicine Asst. Prof. Ayhan Özşahin, and students.

Prof. Hikmet Koçak Provided Professional Guidance to Intern Doctors

As part of the Intern Doctor Orientation Program, Vice Rector Prof. Hikmet Koçak gave an informative presentation to intern doctors. Emphasizing the responsibilities of the medical profession and the situations that may be encountered in the field, Prof. Koçak shared valuable insights that would serve as guidance for young doctor candidates in their professional careers.

Prof. Haydar Sur: “You are becoming part of the same system with 55 other health professions”

Speaking under the title “Provision of Hospital Services,” Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Haydar Sur shared important information about the healthcare system. Stressing that the healthcare system is not limited to hospitals, Sur said, “There are 56 health professions in Türkiye, and you are becoming part of the same system along with the other 55 health professions.” He noted that the World Health Organization defines the healthcare system as the entirety of institutions, people, and activities whose primary goal is to improve health. Sur pointed out that family health centers and laboratories are also part of this system. He advised students to understand how the system functions and emphasized the importance of recognizing both public and private healthcare service structures.

Prof. Aptullah Haholu Emphasized the Role of the Internship Period in Medical Education

Prof. Aptullah Haholu, faculty member of Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine, presented under the title “Internship Period Training and Working Principles (Intern Doctor Directive)” and explained the rights and responsibilities of students regarding clinical practice. Emphasizing the role and importance of the internship period in medical education, Prof. Haholu described this period as a critical step in the transition to becoming a physician.

Asst. Prof. Ayhan Özşahin Highlighted the Importance of Being Active in the Field

As part of the program, Head of the Department of Family Medicine at Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Asst. Prof. Ayhan Özşahin delivered a presentation titled “Information on the Internship Program and Presentation of the Intern Report Book.” He categorized the medical education process into passive and active phases and emphasized the seriousness of the internship period. Özşahin stated that the sixth year is the most critical time when students begin to take individual responsibility and underlined the importance of being active in the field and establishing effective communication with healthcare professionals during this time.

The program concluded with a Q&A session and a group photo with the participants.
