Amid the shadow of the crises facing the world, an important work that questions the relationship between the nature of the state and the direction it has taken throughout history has been presented to readers. President of the Environmental Ethics Platform at Üsküdar University, Prof. İbrahim Özdemir, has published his new book titled “Gorbachev: A Leader’s Test with the Environment.”
Prof. İbrahim Özdemir described “Gorbachev: A Leader’s Test with the Environment” as “Not only a portrait of a political leader; it is also a call for a more just and environmentally friendly economic model for humanity.” He emphasized that one of the inspirations for the book was the words of the last president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev:
“We urgently need a new economic model... We cannot continue to live by ignoring environmental problems. The planet is under extreme stress... We do not have enough fresh water for people. Today, billions of people are suffering from hunger. Therefore, the new model must consider all these needs. This model must be more human and more nature-oriented... We are all interconnected, yet we continue to behave as if we are completely autonomous.”
Prof. Özdemir stated, “Precisely at a time when the Mining Law is being discussed in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, I hope this book will contribute to these discussions and encourage us to rethink our responsibility toward nature.”
Prof. İbrahim Özdemir invited his readers to engage with the book by saying, “Let us think together and talk together for a livable world,” encouraging them to obtain, share, and discuss the book.
The book has been published by BİRİNCİ KİTAP publishing house.
