A 50th Year in Profession Plaque Presented to Prof. Nevzat Tarhan by Cerrahpaşa

President of Üsküdar University Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan was invited to the graduation ceremony of Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. A commemorative plaque was presented to Prof. Tarhan in honor of his 50th year in the medical profession. Having graduated from Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1975, Prof. Tarhan emphasized the humanistic dimension of the medical profession in his speech at the ceremony. He stated that the practice of medicine is not merely about treatment and highlighted the importance of the ability to empathize with the patient.

Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, President of Üsküdar University, attended the 2025 graduation ceremony of Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, from which he graduated.

At the ceremony held at Yahya Kemal Beyatlı Performance Center, a special plaque was presented to Prof. Tarhan in recognition of his 50th year in the profession.

"From 1975 to 2025, we have learned a lot..."

Prof. Tarhan, who graduated from Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1975, emphasized the humanistic dimension of the medical profession in his speech at the ceremony. Stating that being a physician is not only about providing treatment, Tarhan said, "From 1975 to 2025, we have learned a lot, and we continue to learn. The most concise advice for a future physician is a saying by Ibn Sina, expressed a thousand years ago and confirmed today by neuroimmunology: 'The physician rarely treats, often comforts.' This statement highlights the ability to empathize with the patient."

Thanking the Rector of Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa, Prof. Nuri Aydın, Tarhan continued his speech by sincerely wishing success to all graduates: "I wish you all good health, inner peace, and a life full of success. I would like to express my gratitude to the Rectorate of Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa for showing the courtesy of remembering us, and to the true hero mothers and fathers who raise such wonderful children."
