Türkiye is at the level of advanced countries in spine surgery!
Istanbul Spine Masters 2025," bringing together the world's leading experts in spine surgery, is being held from April 24-27, 2025, at the Üsküdar University NP Health Campus Ibn Sina Auditorium, hosted by Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Hospital.
Prof. Nevzat Tarhan:
"We established Türkiye's first and Europe's second brain hospital. Today, we have over 24,000 students, approximately 4,000 of whom are international. We are pioneers in Türkiye in postgraduate programs such as neuroscience and neuromarketing."
Prof. Onur Yaman:
"Türkiye is on the same level as advanced countries in the world in spine surgery, and even leads in many areas."
"Istanbul Spine Masters 2025," bringing together the world's leading experts in spine surgery, is being held in Istanbul from April 24-27, 2025, hosted by Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Hospital.
Opening speeches for the event at the Üsküdar University NP Health Campus Ibn Sina Auditorium were delivered by President of Üsküdar University and Chairman of the Board of NPİSTANBUL Hospital, Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan; Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Haydar Sur; President of the International Academy of Spine Surgery (IAS) Oscar L. Alves; President of the IAS Jutty Parthiban; and Congress Vice President and NPİSTANBUL Hospital Brain, Nerve, and Spinal Cord Surgery Specialist Prof. Onur Yaman.
Prof. Nevzat Tarhan: "We are pioneers in Türkiye in postgraduate programs such as neuroscience and neuromarketing"
President of Üsküdar University and Chairman of the Board of NPİSTANBUL Hospital, Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, stated that today's meeting has a deep thematic connection with the university's founding mission, adding, "We set out in 2011, focusing on neuroscience. We embarked with themes of molecular biology, engineering, and behavioral sciences. In 2018, we established Türkiye's first and Europe's second brain hospital. Today, we have over 24,000 students, approximately 4,000 of whom are international. We are pioneers in Türkiye in postgraduate programs such as neuroscience and neuromarketing. It is a great pleasure for us to see you, the brain and spinal cord surgery group, among us. It is an honor for us to support such meetings where experience and knowledge are shared and transferred."
Prof. Onur Yaman: "The Spine Masters event started in 2015"
Congress Vice President and NPİSTANBUL Hospital Brain, Nerve, and Spinal Cord Surgery Specialist Prof. Onur Yaman stated that the Istanbul Spine Masters event started in 2015 and has been held continuously until now, except during the Covid period, reminding that experts from all over the world, from Germany to Korea, Portugal to Japan, America to Tunisia and Egypt, have come and presented.
Not limited to theory, supported by live surgical applications…
"Participants share the most current literature in spine surgery and convey their own experiences," said Prof. Onur Yaman, continuing as follows:
"Leading experts from around the world in many areas of spine surgery, such as trauma, degenerative diseases, deformities, and congenital anomalies, share the most current literature and convey their clinical experiences. The meetings are not limited to theoretical presentations; they are also supported by live surgical applications. Two separate course programs are being organized in this year's event. The first of these is the 'basic course,' where fundamental training is provided. In this course, teams of five to six people work in groups assigned to four tables. Participating surgeons find the chance to perform procedures like placing screws in the cervical spine and thoracic spine one-on-one on models. Thus, theoretical knowledge is reinforced with practical experience."
Part of the training is conducted in the hospital operating room
"The second course is the 'advanced course,' planned for advanced-level surgeons. In this program, special models called 'Upsurgeon' are used, which are anatomically very similar to cadavers, including muscle tissue, but are not actual cadavers. The first application using this technique on the spinal region in Türkiye was held last year. The second is being held this year in cooperation with Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Hospital. Part of the training is conducted in the hospital operating room. Surgical techniques for various regions of the spine are demonstrated separately in three different rooms."
Surgery simulations with robotic assistance…
Prof. Onur Yaman mentioned that participants will have the opportunity to practice on models that are highly compatible with anatomical structures, adding, "In the afternoon, as part of the advanced course, hands-on studies will be conducted in a specially designed spine surgery training center. In this center, the structure of the spine will be introduced to the system, and surgery simulations will be performed with robotic assistance. Participants will have the opportunity to perform robot-assisted surgical practice on models. Why is this meeting important? Because physicians specializing in spine surgery from all over the world come together to share their knowledge and experience. As Türkiye, we are very happy and proud to host such a prestigious organization."
Dr. Yaman: "Türkiye is at the level of advanced countries in the world in spine surgery"
Yaman concluded his words by stating, "It must be particularly emphasized that Türkiye is on the same level as advanced countries in the world in spine surgery, and even leads in many areas."
At the event's opening, Üsküdar University Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Haydar Sur, Founder of the Middle East Spine Society Prof. Mehmet Zileli, President of the Middle East Spine Society Mohammad Zohair Shaker, President of the IAS Oscar L. Alves, and President of the IAS Jutty Parthiban also delivered opening speeches.
The event will last 4 days
"Istanbul Spine Masters 2025," one of the most prestigious events in its field with its scientific and educational content, hosts participants from 28 countries, while 44 academicians, including world-renowned names in their fields, contribute scientifically with their presentations. A total of 123 participants are attending an intensive four-day program equipped with the latest techniques in spine surgery, case analyses, video presentations, and consensus sessions.
Within the scope of the 4-day event; the 8th Istanbul Spine Masters Meeting, the International Academy of Spine Surgery (IAS) Cervical Disc Herniation Consensus Meeting, the Middle East Spine Society Basic Spine Course Module 2, and practical applications in spine surgery will be conducted on Upsurgeon models, accompanied by the O-ARM surgical imaging system and robotics in the operating room.
With this event, where current developments in spine surgery, case analyses, results of new procedures, and advanced techniques will be discussed in detail, the aim is to make a direct contribution to clinical practice.
