Dr. Meliha Nur Çerçinli elected President of the Turkish Archivists Association
Dr. Meliha Nur Çerçinli, Instructor at the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Üsküdar University, has been elected as the President of the Turkish Archivists Association.
According to a statement from the association, following the end of the term of Orhan Sakin, who has contributed many works in the fields of archival science, history, and Ottoman Turkish, Çerçinli was appointed as the new president of the association.
In the new term, projects such as the preservation of personal archives, maintaining collective memory in digital environments, developing AI-supported archival systems, and strengthening professional solidarity are set to be implemented.
The Turkish Archivists Association, a member of the International Council on Archives (ICA), conducts activities aimed at carrying Türkiye’s archival memory into the future, with active participation from expert academics in the field.
Collaborating with archival communities abroad, the association also provides mentorship support to academics and students working in relevant departments at universities.
Who is Dr. Meliha Nur Çerçinli?
Meliha Nur Çerçinli completed her undergraduate studies at Yeditepe University in 2010, her master's degree at Istanbul University in 2017, and her PhD with honors at Yeditepe University in 2022.
Çerçinli teaches courses such as History and Social Memory, Museology, and Urban History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Üsküdar University, and has been working as a researcher at the Directorate of State Archives for 15 years.
She adapted the political documents of Mustafa Reşit Pasha into contemporary Turkish and published them under the title A Turkish Diplomat’s Political Documents (Bir Türk Diplomatının Evrak-ı Siyasiyyesi).
The author, who has contributed to studies on child, women’s, and animal rights, has presented papers at national and international symposiums and congresses, and has also participated as a keynote speaker. Çerçinli was also a member of the scientific committee of the Turkish Archivists Association.
